Hazard Notifier

Hazard Notifier is a unique, highly customizable application, built to deliver information about potentially unsafe events simply and straightforwardly. With push notifications and distinctive sounds, it sends what you want to know directly to your iOS device. Open it and you can immediately watch and track developing hazards on a map in relation to your location — with weather radar and hazard icons, you can see exactly what is going on and where.

You choose what reaches you

You are completely free to adjust the range of the area in which you receive notifications, as well as choose which kinds of hazard you are notified of. Each hazard carries its own notify distance and its own alert sound, so the ones that matter most to you do not sound like the ones that do not, and its own minimum time between repeats. Enable everything, disable everything, or return any single hazard to its defaults.

If you use your device location, alerts follow you — you are notified as you move into the area of a hazard, not only when one appears where you started. You can also set a location of your own and watch hazards there.

Report what you see

Hazard Notifier's reporting service lets you report events that have just begun to occur around you, which can help notify others about possibly unsafe events before they have even been formally declared. Choose a hazard type, add a short description if you want one, and send — using your device location or one you enter yourself. Your report carries nothing that identifies you.

A report can be disputed by anyone who sees it, so a report others say is wrong carries less weight. The app also shows you your own reporting statistics: Users in Reporting Range, Reporting Level, and World Wide Reporting Rank.

Hazards are gathered from monitoring sources around the world as well as from the reporting community, which is why they appear globally and not only where somebody happens to be using the app. Every hazard shown is an estimate, whatever its source: location and time are approximate, some are delayed, and some are wrong.

Help includes a Simulation that fills the map with example hazards, so you can try the notifications, sounds and map views without waiting for something real to happen.

It keeps working offline

If the app cannot reach the network you can still report hazards and change your settings. A box drawn around the tab icons tells you connectivity is down; when it returns, your queued reports and changes are sent and the box disappears.

With Hazard Notifier you do not have to spend as much time sifting through slews of disorganized information on the latest environmental events from news programs and web pages. It displays events clearly, in relation to where you are. If you want to stay informed of turbulent conditions yet cannot actively watch the latest weather or news, Hazard Notifier will send you push notifications of potentially unsafe events in your area.
