Set Up Your Financial Plan with Anthropic's Claude AI

If you have a Claude account, you can add the Retirement Estimator skill to Claude. The skill teaches Claude how the Retirement Estimator app works, so Claude can gather your information and build the plan for you instead of you entering it all yourself. Claude asks you plain questions one at a time about your income, savings, investments and spending, then creates a financial plan file. Open the file on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, and Retirement Estimator loads it and shows your graphs. It works for retirement plans, spending budgets, or any plan of money coming in, saved and spent over time.

Claude is not a financial advisor and does not give financial advice. It makes the Retirement Estimator app much easier to use. For financial advice, consult a qualified financial advisor.

What You Need

Retirement Estimator 1.7.0 or later (iPhone, iPad, or Mac with Apple silicon), from the App Store.
A Claude plan that supports skills and includes Opus.
The Import/Export Data in-app purchase (included in the Premium Package in-app purchase). You don't need to buy it until the last step, after your plan is built and the app has checked it.

Purchase last. The app checks the whole plan before asking for any purchase, and lists any problems for free. Nothing has to be bought until the plan is ready to import.

Premium Package. Most plans go over the free version's item limits, so the Premium Package in-app purchase is the usual choice: a one-time charge of $4.99 (US) that includes Import/Export Data, Unlimited Finance Entry and CSV Reports.

Set Up Your Plan with Claude, in 4 Steps

Download the Retirement Estimator skill: itdtllc.com/data/RetirementEstimatorSkill.zip
Add it to Claude: in claude.ai or the Claude app (not your device's Settings app), tap your name or initials ▸ Settings ▸ Capabilities and check that Cloud code execution and file creation is on. Then under Skills tap + Add ▸ Upload skill, and pick the zip.
Ask Claude: choose Opus in Claude's model menu, then ask "Help me set up my plan in Retirement Estimator." Answer its questions. You can change any value Claude suggests.
Open the plan file Claude gives you:
- iPhone or iPad: tap Download on the file (ignore any panel with Copy or Load file). Go to your Home Screen, open the Files app ▸ Downloads, and tap the plan file.
- Mac: click Download, then double-click the plan file in your Downloads folder.
Retirement Estimator opens, checks the plan, and imports it. Then you'll see your graphs.

You need a Claude plan that includes Opus. Importing needs the Import/Export Data in-app purchase (included in the Premium Package). You don't need to buy it until step 4.

You can change anything. Claude states each assumption and changes any value you ask.

The graphs and results come from the app. Claude sets up the plan; the app's own finance engine calculates the results.

Start a new Claude Code session, switch to Opus (/model opus), and ask: "Help me set up my plan in Retirement Estimator."

Claude Usage

Claude can check your plan in detail from a CSV report you export from the app (needs the CSV Reports in-app purchase, included in the Premium Package). A CSV report can be large, and reading it, plus the thinking Claude does to check it, can use a big share of your Claude usage limit. Asking Claude one specific question about the report uses much less than asking it to check everything. Claude will tell you before it asks for one. For most questions, a screenshot you take of your plan's line graph or Monte Carlo simulation in the app, shared with Claude in the chat, is enough.

Claude can suggest ideas to try, such as retiring at a different age or saving a little more, and you can compare them in the app. These are suggestions, not financial advice. For financial advice, consult a qualified financial advisor.

Your Privacy

Claude works on your behalf, like a helper entering your plan for you. Your information is held in two places:

Claude (Anthropic): what you tell Claude, and the plan it creates, are stored by Anthropic under your Claude account and its privacy settings.
Retirement Estimator (your device): when you import the plan, the app saves it on your device, the same as data you enter yourself. The app does not send it anywhere.

ITDT LLC receives none of it: not your conversations with Claude, not your plan, and not your app data.
